Standards as enablers of a decarbonized construction sector

Standards and norms are essential in construction. They ensure buildings are safe and reliable. But they can and should also do more: they can help us build sustainably.

In 2024, this idea was at the heart of our work in the ReActiv project (www.reactivproject.eu).

For the last three years, HOP3 Consulting has proudly partnered with REACTIV, a European Union-funded project of the EU Horizon 2020 programme. This groundbreaking project explores innovative ways to create novel low-carbon cements, including compounds made from Processed Bauxite, a byproduct of aluminum refining.

In 2024, we worked closely with experts from the cement and aluminum industries, research centers, and laboratories. Together, we developed a detailed dossier to support the standardization of these low-carbon cements and started engaging with the European Standardisation Committee (CEN). These materials have the potential to cut construction’s carbon footprint while giving new life to industrial byproducts.

Our goal is to unlock the market for more sustainable cements.

At HOP3 Consulting, we remain committed to driving sustainable solutions for the construction sector. Do not hesitate to contact us for any project.
