On April 5-6th 2022, HOP3 Consulting supported the ‘roadmapping sessions’ of Innovandi – the innovation arm of the Global Cement & Concrete Association that runs key innovation programmes aiming at producing carbon neutral and circular concrete by 2050 at the latest. This network brought together leading cement, concrete, admixtures, material equipment companies and scientific institutions.
The objective of this Spring Event organized in London was to generate new ideas for future research and to identify pre-competitive innovation areas with real potential to accelerate the sustainability transformation of the global concrete sector.
Bernard Mathieu facilitated successive workshops dedicated to supplementary cementitious materials, new types of clinker, concrete admixtures, concrete composition, recycling of construction and demolition waste and recarbonation of concrete.
The different brainstorming meetings were hybrid, with around 30 to 50 participants present in London and 20 to 50 participants joining online from all over the world.
Thanks to the excellent organisation by the GCCA Secretariat and the active engagement of all participants, the Spring Event generated a large number of potential future research areas for the sector. The commitment of all participants to combine their knowledge and expertise towards a common goal is impressive and is as such extremely encouraging for the decarbonisation of the sector.
