The European aluminum industry produces 6.8 million tons of bauxite residue every year, while only 3% is recycled. We want to reverse that trend.
In November 2020, a cross-sectorial innovation consortium, headed by LafargeHolcim, was launched with 20 partners across 12 European countries, under the name “ReActiv” (reactivproject.eu). This 4-year Research and Innovation project, funded by the European Community’s Horizon 2020 Programme, will aim at recycling residues from the aluminum sector in the production of new, low-carbon cement products.
